Why Do Chimneys Need Swept?
Simply put: Because Chimneys Get Dirty!
Build up of soot and creosote naturally occurs with the burning of gas and wood. Creosote in the flue is the leading cause of chimney fires that threaten the home. Dirty soot can also fall from the chimney into the home causing a mess on nearby furnishings.
How To Know It's Time For A Chimney & Fireplace Cleaning?
Often, customers, have their chimney cleaned due to the foul odor from messy creosote, but what many don’t know is that build-up can actually be a fire hazard. The Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) recommends that a fireplace is swept if 1/8-inch of build up is present. (Even sooner if you notice smelly glazed creosote!)
All furnaces, flues, and gas fireplaces need annual servicing to ensure good performance and to reduce the chance of carbon monoxide leaks.
How Often Should A Chimney Be Swept?
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 211 states:
"Chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be inspected at least once a year for soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearances. Cleaning, maintenance, and repairs shall be done if necessary."

What to Expect During A Chimney Sweeping
First, we speak with you, our valued client. The technician will ask a few questions to help us better serve you. Then, we climb to the top of the chimney to do the exterior portion of the inspection. We take photos, measurements and gather necessary information that's all included in our report.
We prepare the hearth area surrounding the fireplace to protect your home. Wearing shoe booties, our concierge place clean tarps on the floors to prevent making a mess of the workspace.
We Are the “No-Mess Chimney Sweeper”
Here's how we keep it clean:
- Isolate the fireplace and chimney from the rest of your home.
- Add a tight-fitting fabric around the fireplace opening (it provides a barrier).
- A commercial vacuum then pulls the debris into the fireplace and away from the technician.
Now that the system is prepared, the chimney sweeping can begin.
A routine chimney sweep uses rotary brushes that power away stubborn deposits but leaves the flue tiles unharmed. Next, the technician uses specialty brushes to get into those tight spots. After all, surfaces are brushed, the vacuum is used to remove the debris from the fireplace and behind the damper.

There’s no denying that sweeping chimneys is a dirty job! Rest assured we take these extra steps because doing it any other way could make a mess and even leave the system still soiled. Our chimney sweep is complete and the job gets done right.
