As National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2024 comes to a close, we reflect on the immense value apprentices bring to our company and the vital role veterans play in our workforce. Full Service Chimney has been a proud participant in NAW, and this year marks a special milestone: 10 years of engagement, expansion, and innovation in Registered Apprenticeships.

We’re honored to contribute to this legacy by not only providing quality training but also by actively hiring veterans as part of our apprenticeship program.

Why We Hire Veterans

At Full Service Chimney, we believe military veterans possess the leadership, discipline, and work ethic that are crucial to success in the skilled trades. With over 40% of our registered apprentices being military veterans, we recognize the unique skills and experiences they bring to our team. As a small token of our appreciation, we launched a new tradition this Veterans Day—a Steak and Eggs Breakfast to honor their service.

Our apprenticeship program offers a structured pathway to meaningful careers in the chimney and fireplace industry. With the Registered Apprenticeship Program approved by the Department of Labor, we provide hands-on training, on-the-job learning, specialized trade education with related technical instruction, and competitive wages from day one.

Why Choose a Career in Chimney Services?

The chimney and fireplace industry offers stable, rewarding careers with opportunities for growth. By joining our team, apprentices receive specialized training to become certified professionals in a field that’s essential to safety and comfort in homes worldwide.

Whether you’re transitioning from military service or looking for a new challenge, a career in chimney services provides a perfect blend of physical work, technical knowledge, and the ultimate craftsmanship.

How to Apply for an Apprenticeship at Full Service Chimney

We are always looking for dedicated, hardworking individuals—especially veterans—who are eager to learn and build a career in the trades. Applying for our apprenticeship program is simple:

  1. Visit our Careers Page
Submit your application: Include your resume and any relevant experience.
  2. Interview: If selected, you’ll be invited for a phone screen where we’ll discuss the program in detail. That initial screening may result in an interview and/or assessments. (See the application for more in details.)
  3. We encourage veterans, active military, and anyone interested in the trades to consider this opportunity.

Your journey to a fulfilling career could begin today!

When asked for thoughts on the value of recruiting veterans to be apprentices, the Recruiter and Apprenticeship Sponsor at Full Service Chimney had this to say:

“For the type of challenging work our crews do, we need people who are leaders and who want to keep learning to solve difficult problems! Which with fireplaces and chimneys happen almost every day.

You know, as a recruiter, it can be hard to find people who crave a challenge and so far veterans have been a great fit  for us. Most are ready to be leaders, but also willing to listen and learn new things from the seasoned professionals in our field. Our current team is a blessing to say the least and we’ve had a great experience hiring veterans here because they tend to take their job very seriously and that mindset is a critical part of chimney and fireplace work, especially when it comes to people’s safety.

All of our apprentices, whether veteran or civilian, end up serving our local communities in a way that often goes unrecognized, you know, of the apprentices who complete the full program, they become journeyworkers, and then from that point most of them go on to become project leaders who go out to people’s homes and help our Kansas City customers every day by ensuring that their chimney systems are properly installed and well-maintained.  – I say “unrecognized” because the little details are often overlooked by some contractors who do not have the same level of training and credentials.

When a Full Service Chimney crew does repairs for people, you know they’re certified, depending on how long they’ve been with us, they’ve been through hundreds or thousands of hours of training; so our technicians are well-versed in their craft and that means our customers can be confident when they go to use their fireplace.”
